Middle School Outreach – December

Hello, everyone. This is my last issue for the 2018 school year!  I’m so happy that so many of you are reading these letters. I hope that they are helpful for your future.  Keep submitting questions and look to see if I respond to yours in the future!

Question: Is high school more laid back than middle school?

Response:

Dear bright students,

Not really.  High school is very different from middle school.  The teachers and curriculum are trying to prepare you for real life, so they give you a little more freedom and independence.  However, this can me a blessing and a curse. Even though they give you more freedom, it becomes your responsibility to know when your assignments are due.  Almost every day classwork is assigned in each class, so you have to make sure that you keep track of due dates. They also do not remind you every day if something is due.

Another thing that is different is that you have each class every other day so none of your assignments are directly due the next day.  There are only four classes a day, but they are each 88 minutes long with a five minute passing time between them. If you miss class, it is your responsibility to make the work up.  The teachers will not look for you to make sure that you are caught up.

One thing that you notice right away about high school is that you need to take responsibility for yourself.  High school is one milestone on your journey to adulthood, and it should be taken seriously. Maturity is one of the things that you learn, but is never taught.

Best Wishes!

Peyton
